Sometimes I think that creative living is mostly about trusting your intuition and taking a step towards something, without necessarily knowing quite where you are going. Crafting an identify apart from your designated roles is much the same. You can't accurately sit down and decide what the masterpiece of yourself is going to look like, anymore than a painter can sit down at a canvas and picture exactly what he is going to create. Even if he thinks he knows where his work is going, the art itself might end up going somewhere else entirely. Likewise, many an author of fiction has experienced her characters taking over the story and steering it in a completely different direction than the author intended. This is not necessarily a bad thing. It can lead to some lovely creations, in fact. Part of the creative journey is learning that holding too tightly to your plan can squeeze all the inspiration and life right out it, not to mention leaving no room for growth.
You guys know I am a big believer in quiet reflection. Last year I did a lot of reflecting on where I want to go with this blog (this included annoying my husband with endless "What do you think of..." questions). I have a lot of things I want to accomplish with it. I want to inspire you all to create lives of your dreams. I want to give you some guidance on how to do that, by bringing you along on my own journey. I want to honor the wonderful and gorgeous things about life, while being honest about the complicated, sad, messy, infuriating parts. And I want to incorporate the photography business I began to build in 2016, and allow for it to grow in 2017. In order to do all that, I will be doing some tweaking to this blog, including creating a home page. The home page will have a link for the blog, and a link for my photography, and other parts of this site. The Health and Wellness link will be updated to include all parts of wellness, including mental, emotional, and physical. It's so essential we take care of ourselves. You are the foundation for your life, and you need to be strong and stable in order to build onto what you already have. I know you already know this. I also know that finding time to take care of yourself can be tough. Like, really really tough. This section will document my attempts to find ways to attend to my own wellness, in hopes that you find something that will work for you. Or, you will relate to my struggles!
I will also have to let go of some things, in order to allow for growth in other areas. Although I am going to continue looking for ways to incorporate more travel into my life, I will not be including a travel link in the reformatted blog. I love travel, I will probably always love travel. But I just haven't been able to focus on it enough for it to warrant its own section. Any travel adventures I have in 2017, however, might just work their way into a blog post or two.
As I become more connected to my heart and soul, I also become more clear about my vision for this blog. I am discovering how I want to tap into my creative energy and then put it out into the universe, connecting myself with other precious souls around the world. I am excited to see this dream come together a little more this year, and will be sharing the new home page with you sometime within the next couple months.
It's nice to meet you! Welcome to my blog. My name is Amy, and my husband and I have three lively kids. We are so happy to share our journey with you. Come along as we learn to embrace the messiness of life, and maybe chase a dream or two along the way.
